Six-Star Silversea Cruises
Silversea Cruises was bought by Royal Caribbean International in July 2020, having operated as a privately owned luxury cruise line since 1994.
There are a small number of cruise lines rated as six stars, and Silversea is one such line. What makes it six stars? A six-star cruise line tends to have smaller ships but with more space for the cruiser. The onboard experiences are also top-notch. With six-star cruising, everything is included in the cruise.
Silversea Cruises offers a handful of cruises from the UK, via Southampton, aboard Silver Dawn, Silver Shadow and Silver Spirit.

Having been built in 2000, Silver Shadow is the oldest ship in the Silversea fleet. At 28,258 tonnes, she is also the smallest. Being older than the other ships hasn’t stopped Silver Shadow from being one of the Silverseas cruising fraternities’ favourite ships.

One advantage of cruising with a six-star cruise line is a low passenger-to-crew ratio. On Silver Dawn, this is 1.45 passengers for every crew member. However, other ships in the fleet have less than this. Silver Shadow, for instance, has a ratio of 1.29. With most cruise lines, this figure is usually over 3.
